Puddles of blood continued to flow out of of his back, as tears were streaming down his face, and his once sturdy sword lay on the floor. He traveled from present day Spain to Baghdad by foot, for the sole reason of studying under an Imam. She continued to serve her people with knowledge and taught in the great Umayyad Mosque until she could no longer do so. He was leading salah in the kabah as a teenagger, and went on to write over 150 of the best works. He memorized the Quran before the age of 14 and went on to serve as judge of Basrah.
I seek to journey into a land to see how they lived, and to see those whose hearts burned with a potent light and with a coolness that did not consume reason but enhanced it. Their are still flames of noor from their lives that shine to this day and age because they persevered in what was right.
Perhaps while in their world we will be able to detach ourselves from the desire of wanting what others have in regards to great houses, and we will concentrate rather, on the greatness of Baqiyy ibn Makhlad and Ibn Hajar, may Allah be pleased with them. I hearof a glorious past of men and women who never tired of their worship, while we struggle to memorize 40 hadith their memories quickly retained 40,000. I hearof Abdul Ghanee the great and his ability to pray 300 nawafilon a daily basis, and I hear about the people who anticipate deception and prevent it, I hearof men who don’t occupy them self in simply a “good” action but rather, one far better than it. I hear about a legacy that is soaked with perfection, I hear of stories that will move the heart to leave a mark on this world, and the story is of characters — who only speak the truth and whose promises are never left unfulfilled. I hear of torture and blood on their backs, I hear of trials unknown to us, I hear of a 12 year old beseeching his Lord for ‘ilm and hikmah, and all of this that I hear, they tell me it is “forreal“.
And when we leave these people from our past, we shall pray for a fear of the fire that is beneath us and for an affection for the gardens before us, and we shall pray that every thought and every action, that every notion and every image we have in this world will only enhance our station with our Lord, the Sustainer of all that exists.
Alas, it is time to study the torch reminiscent of a glorious past and of brave warriors and audacious servants. Alas it is time to embrace our past and bear its honor.
