The most comprehensive advice I have read, after that of the Prophet (sallalahu Alayhi wasallam), was advice that my friend was given by her 8th grade teacher. Here it is, an emblem of wisdom and keepsake to say the least.
“Our existance only concens three things: Allah swt, you and the grave. All other things are minute details. High school, college, and life in general are passing moments. The most important thing for you is to ALWAYS BE CONNECTED to Allah swt. Don’t worry about the outcomes; they are not in your hands. So do not get caught up in things that are fleeting. You must always remember Allah swt because there is so much nonsense in this dunya to get caught up in. Just keep making du’a for safety and success because in the end…all of our lives will seem like one useless second that has passed by. So don’t worry; always ask Allah swt to pick and choose for you. Always pray Istikharah for guidance and clarity. Don’t do or say anything that will lower you. Always speak the truth, but be careful, it must be the right time. Leave some portion of the night for du’a and seeking divine assistance. Be consistent and doors will be opened for you. Do not have ANYTHING in your heart against anyone and people will respect you. Always smile, but in a dignified way. Always help others, as long as it does not hurt you. Your life is your capitol, so spend it wisely. Remember that you are now where it is the best time and place for you to be because Allah swt has planned it this way. May Allah swt always accept our du’as and give us what is best for us. Ameen. “

What a great and simple reminder. We often get caught up in the minutae of life losing sight of what is important…Allah, our deeds and our grave.
