‘Umar ibn ‘Abdil ‘Azeez: Reviver of the Sunnah

As we have been traveling through the history of our nation, we have read the biographies of the great men of the past, present, and the future.

Among them was a man of the Tabi‘een (followers of the companions), whose zuhd (asceticism) was incomparable.  He did not make a name in history as a king, but as an abstinent and just Khaleefah, whose throne was made of jute mat.  He put away the darkness of tyranny with the light of justice.  He never even dreamt that history will recall his life.  He was a great scholar and a politician, who was like a solid mountain whom the generations take the meanings of justice, honor, and sincerity from.  He was one ‘Umar from another ‘Umar: a lion amongst men, the great grandson of ‘Umar, the Lion of the Sahaba.

He is the Ameer of the Believers, the Mujtahid Imaam, the Fifth Just Khaleefah and the Mujaddid (reviver) of the first one hundred Hijri years;  ‘Umar, the son of ‘Abdul ‘Azeez the son of Marwaan the son of Al-Hakam the son of ‘Aas the son of ‘Abdul Shams.

He was born in Madinah, 60 years after the migration of the Prophet salAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, during the rule of Khaleefah Yazeed ibn Mu’awiyah.  His mother was Layla bint ‘Aasim ibn ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab, and his father was ‘Abdul ‘Azeez, son of a Khaleefah, and a prince.

Faatimah as-Samarqandiyyah: The Beautiful Jurist

Faatimah bint Muhammad bin Ahmad as-Samarqandee, known as Faatimah as-Samarqandiyyah, was a well known female jurist and scholar who lived during the Abbasid dynasty.

Her father was a very famous scholar of Hanafi Fiqh who authored Tuhfatul Fuqahaa, which is considered to be one of the most important works in the madhab.  People came from far and wide to study under him, and he had many students.  Faatimah herself was one of these students: she memorized the Qur’an at a very early age, memorized the rulings of the Hanafi madhab, and her father taught her everything he knew with regards to Hadith and Fiqh.

al-Hasan al-Basree: The Master Preacher

Al-Mugheerah said: “The most knowledgeable in judgment and history is Ash-Sha’bee. The most knowledgeable in Salaah and Zakah is an-Nakha’ee.  The most knowledgable in Hajj is ‘Atta. The most knowledgeable in Tafseer is Sa’eed ibn Jubayr. The most knowledgeable in business transactions is Ibn Seereen.  As for al-Hasan, he has mastered them all.

al-Hasan ibn Yasaar al-Basree wasThe Pen born in Madinah, 22 years after the migration of the Prophet Muhammad salAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam (642 CE).  His father, Yasaar, was the slave of the great Companion Zaid ibn Thabit, the scribe of the Prophet and well-known head of the committee which compiled the Qur’an.  His mother, Khayrah, was the slave of Umm ul-Mu’mineen Umm Salamah, the wife of the Prophet, who also suckled him.  So, from his first years, al-Hasan grew up in the household of Rasoolullah, and had an amazing example with the presence of Zaid ibn Thabit in his life.

When al-Hasan was born, he was brought to ‘Umar who made du’aa for him: “Oh Allah!
Give him understanding of the religion, and make him beloved by the people.”
Allah accepted the du’aa of ‘Umar and everyone loved al-Hasan al-Basree.

For You, a Thousand Times Over

Never again will humanity be blessed with such a teacher. Never again will we be given a more sacred text as that which he recited. His values changed the very course of history. His teachings are still in practice, now, more than ever. He taught others to be patient during calamities and desire hardship in this world. He prayed for those who hurt him, he cried for those whom he never saw, and forgave even the worst of enemies. His companions respected him, his family waited for him, his followers longed for him, and we are filled with love for him. How did an orphan, a simple man who did not know how to read or write, rise to a rank as that of the Prophet, Peace Be Upon Him?

A true awakening in which lives were changed, miracles were witnessed, battles were fought, and blood was shed. No group has been able to reclaim such noble status or any portion of it. Within a quarter of a century he managed to leave the world completely transformed. No one has ever been sent to such ignorant of people as those whom the Prophet, Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him, was sent to after which he brought them up, morally, spiritually, and physically. No man ever breathed such a new life affecting all branches of human activity as did Muhammad, PBUH. This April, Qabeelat Tayybah invites you to study an unparalleled legacy of an epic hero, whose legacy spans across the East and West, North and South. Prepare yourself for the most sacred journey of all!

Passing Moments

The most comprehensive advice I have read, after that of the Prophet (sallalahu Alayhi wasallam), was advice that my friend was given by her 8th grade teacher. Here it is, an emblem of wisdom and keepsake to say the least.

“Our existance only concens three things: Allah swt, you and the grave. All other things are minute details. High school, college, and life in general are passing moments. The most important thing for you is to ALWAYS BE CONNECTED to Allah swt. Don’t worry about the outcomes; they are not in your hands. So do not get caught up in things that are fleeting. You must always remember Allah swt because there is so much nonsense in this dunya to get caught up in. Just keep making du’a for safety and success because in the end…all of our lives will seem like one useless second that has passed by.  So don’t worry; always ask Allah swt to pick and choose for you. Always pray Istikharah for guidance and clarity. Don’t do or say anything that will lower you. Always speak the truth, but be careful, it must be the right time. Leave some portion of the night for du’a and seeking divine assistance. Be consistent and doors will be opened for you. Do not have ANYTHING in your heart against anyone and people will respect you. Always smile, but in a dignified way. Always help others, as long as it does not hurt you. Your life is your capitol, so spend it wisely. Remember that you are now where it is the best time and place for you to be because Allah swt has planned it this way. May Allah swt always accept our du’as and give us what is best for us. Ameen. “

Silenced

A word or two are far too many,

In a world filled with insincerity.

Heavy on the heart and light on the tongue,

An easy slip causes a difficult fall.

Now the silence resonates the message clearly;

So do not attempt to dare utter a word to me.

Have mercy on yourself, and the Angel shadowing you,

For a word or two can damage the heart so easily.

Yet what is uttered is uttered and the doors have finally been sealed,

And now silence resonates the message clearly.

If only a whisper passed by my ear then:
